Mechanical Roles

System integration and design

You’ll focus on integrating mechanical subsystems like the suspension, chassis, and arm to ensure they work together smoothly. From planning mounting strategies to aligning mechanical interfaces, your work will ensure the rover operates as a cohesive unit. If you enjoy thinking about how parts fit, move, and function together in the real world — this role is for you.

CAD design and modeling

You’ll bring ideas to life using SolidWorks to design rover components such as the chassis, suspension, and robotic arm. You’ll translate concepts into detailed 3D models, create technical drawings, and run simulations to test fit, motion, and stress. If you love turning sketches into precise, manufacturable designs — this is your spot.

Manufacturing, Assembly and Maintenance

You’ll take CAD designs and turn them into real parts using tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines. You’ll assemble the rover’s mechanical systems, ensure everything fits and functions, and perform regular maintenance to keep it competition-ready. If you enjoy hands-on work and making sure things run smoothly — this role is for you.

Science System Design

You’ll design and build the rover’s science payload to analyze soil and rock samples for signs of life. This includes developing tools for sample collection, storage, and on-board analysis using sensors or chemical tests.
